The Chemin family: stability and change in perfect harmony
The Chemin family masters the balance between stability and change: They preserve what works while constantly challenging their processes. This seemingly counterintuitive, yet entirely natural paradox characterizes the dynamic Champagne André Chemin house. Always staying one step ahead is their top priority. 📌
Back in time
Let's go back to 1948 in Sacy to meet the newly married winemaking couple André and Micheline Chemin: they were among the pioneers of their time and among the few winemakers to enter the champagne production sector.
To produce champagne, André decided to join the cooperative in the neighboring village of Écueil. Founded in 1948, this cooperative allowed for the sharing of tools and expertise for pressing and early winemaking.
From the very beginning, André trusted the cooperative, which allowed him to process his grapes according to his own vision. 🍇 As soon as the "vins clairs" (still wines that form the basis of Champagne) were brought back to his vineyard in Sacy, he was able to create his first cuvées. He hasn't regretted his decision to become part of the cooperative to this day.
André is still going strong today—the man who laid the foundation for the company and its signature wine style. Even though he is no longer actively involved in running the business, he remains the patriarchal figure who rejoices in the development of his legacy.

Handcraft and innovation
In the 1970s, Jean-Luc, the eldest son of Micheline and André, took over the management of the company. True to his father's tradition, he added his own personal touch.
Like his father, Jean-Luc is also a pioneer. Two of his achievements testify to his creative ingenuity and his constant search for new working methods: In 1988, he initiated the planting of new vineyard plots and the expansion of the winery. For example, he equipped a garden lawnmower with large wheels to work the vineyards. He also manufactured his own breeze blocks with Andre's help.
